2016 Fall CME

The second CME of the year was hosted by Memorial Hermann Sugar Land on September 27, 2016.  Memorial Hermann served a fantastic meal and drink refreshments to approximately 20 physicians along with TMLT guest Tanya Babitch, Manager Risk Management Department.  The CME program, "Patient Today, Plaintiff Tomorrow: Essential Communication Skills for Today's Physician" was given by James Ruffin, Ph.D.  Dr. Ruffin is the owner of James Ruffin Consulting, a Trial and Litigation consulting firm in Dallas, Texas. He has assisted some of the nation's top law firms by bringing his experience as a senior special agent and his knowledge of human behaviors into the courtroom. As an expert in verbal and non-verbal behaviors, Dr. Ruffin is quick to determine the truthfulness of a witness and the credibility of testimony through voice and body-language alone. His years as an investigator, coupled with his criminal interviewing and interrogation techniques, make him an invaluable resource both in witness preparation and jury selection. In a results driven environment, Dr. Ruffin combines education and experience in a true scholar-practitioner fashion.    Those attending the CME were shown why communication is an essential component of today’s health care environment; how to build techniques designed to promote effective communication; how to recognize the effects of emotions and how emotions may impact case reviews; and how to formulate conflict management strategies to diffuse conflict between patient, physician, and facility.
