Membership

If you are a local physician and not yet a member of the Fort Bend Medical Society, we would like to extend an invitation for you to join your colleagues in the area who are already members and who rank among over 47,000 Texas physicians in the Texas Medical Association. The Society provides services, programs and activities designed to meet the professional and personal needs of member physicians, and it strives to maintain a pro-active member-driven approach in service to the profession and the community.

To be eligible for membership in the Fort Bend Medical Society and TMA, an individual must be one of the following:

•            a physician holding the degree of Doctor of Medicine and/or Doctor of Osteopathy

•            a full-time student who is pursuing a course of study in a medical school in Texas recognized by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners leading to the degree of Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy

In addition, all members must subscribe to the Principles of Medical Ethics of the American Medical Association.  Also, with the exception of a few specific categories of membership, all physician members must be licensed to practice medicine in Texas, in which case a temporary license, certificate or permit "shall not be deemed adequate."

We provide:

•           Regular communications and opportunities for feedback that help member physicians study and recommend action on issues of the day, provide thoughts about society goals, and suggest new services

•           Leadership opportunities are offered.  For example, FBMS is entitled to send delegates to the TMA meetings in Austin.   FBMS needs to communicate with local political representatives to keep them apprised of what is impacting the delivery of health care by its physicians.  This is one way our members can make an impact.

Make your voice heard at the TMA, by writing resolutions and addressing issues that you are concerned about.

Live in Harris County, but work in Fort Bend County, or vice versa?   Join both the Harris County and Fort Bend Medical Society to maximize your exposure and networking potential!
