THE TMA LEADERSHIP COLLEGE - Leadership Training for Young Physicians

“If you aren't a natural born leader don't worry; you're not alone. Top leaders of America's most successful health care organizations aren't either. Most have made the leadership journey by taking advantage of their most innate talents, seeking out and learning skills they need, and developing their leadership abilities.”

“The TMA Leadership College (TMALC) was established in 2010 as part of TMA's effort to ensure strong and sustainable physician leadership with organized medicine. TMALC graduates serve as thought leaders who can close the divide among clinicians and health care policymakers, and as trusted leaders within their local communities.”

“With more than 40 hours of classroom instruction, the TMA Leadership College was designed for active TMA members under the age of 40 or who are in the first eight years of practice.”

“The TMA Leadership College is supported by an educational grant from The Physicians Foundation. The Physicians Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) national organization that seeks to advance the work of practicing physicians and to improve the quality of health care for all Americans.”

"As a member of the Fort Bend Medical Society, I have had opportunities to network and develop friendships with other like-minded physicians from every medical specialty.  Additionally, the Fort Bend Medical Society has given me a unique opportunity to participate in the Texas Medical Association Leadership College (TMALC).

The TMALC is offered to physicians under 40 years of age or in their first eight years of practice, and participants are selected annually after sponsorship by their local medical society.
As a TMALC representative from Fort Bend Medical Society, I have had not only structured leadership training, but also unique opportunities to sharpen my skills for videotaped interviews, social media training and an introduction to the legislative process in Austin. My experience with the TMALC has been so positive that I would recommend it to any young physician, particularly within the Fort Bend area."

The Fort Bend County Medical Society congratulates our own Dr. Amitha Rao for her accomplishment and success as one of select few who were chosen to the 2016 TMA Leadership College.  She graduated on April 30th at our TexMed Convention in Dallas.  Her contribution to our Ft. Bend Medical Society is very much appreciated and we look forward to having her as one of our “future leaders”!
